SBIR Phase II Contract Award (PDF)

C.2.1.2.1 Scanner Engine Design Modification: The contractor shall modify and deliver a Microvision Nomad 2100 scanner engine. The modified scanner engine shall include three separate laser diodes, a broadband window to pass multicolor light, and a PL [photoluminescence] screen.

C.2.1.1.2 Light Source Module Component Procurement and Fabrication: The contractor shall build a Bench Top Demonstrator (BTD) to test the color PL screen samples. The BTD will be designed to test large screens to demonstrate scalability and small screens designated for use within the modified Microvision Nomad 2100 color display, discussed in C.2.1.2.1. The electronics for the BTD shall be packaged for ease of testing and validating different screen geometries.

Maybe I'm not paying enough attention but I don't remember a Nomad 2600 version. Looks like the 2500 with the wearable computer from the 2100:

  1. What's with the photoluminescent display? I've always thought of the VRD as direct projection on the retina, but now there is talk of a PL screen. Part of this grant is to identify the materials that might be used in such screens. They mention screens in a variety of sizes, but that isn't sounding like virtual screens. Can anyone shed light on this? (Pun sort of intended.)
