This see-though display from Microvision provides a HUD for anyone from a soldier needing a SITREP to a mechanic looking up a technical manual for the engine they're working on.


Hi all -- sorry I've been out of the loop here on the blog. Above is an image of the SD3000 see-through color display that we demonstrated at SID.

Here's a roundup of news stories coming out of SID from our booth there.

SID was a great show, we met all kinds of people from around the world, and people were very excited about the SD3000 see-through color display and our projectors.

I'll make an effort to keep the blog updated more often than I have over the last couple of months.

  1. Yeah, Ben, we're all quite blue from holding our breath! :) And I'm also quite green with envy (wish I could have been at SID myself). Did you get a chance to see the TI projectors? I hear they're coming commercially soon, but don't match the MVIS specs. What about 3D? I keep thinking that Color Eyewear will blow everyone away. Can't wait...

  2. Hey there, Ben! I was wondering if you could comment on MVIS' plans for the color eyewear's optics. You had mentioned all the way back in 2005 in regards to Lumus' LOE technology that "they seem to be interested to cooperate with Microvision in combining technologies where each company contributes it's expertise." How have those talks progressed in recent years? Did you eventually come to a mutually beneficially synergy?

Then again, I would also favor an adjustable behind-the-head approach with all the electronics stuffed into the "band", the IPM(s) sitting right behind the ears, a slim but sizable LiPoly battery tucked in the back, and simple Nomad-like transparent reflectors (deflectors?) for both eyes. This way, nothing actually rests on your face, which seems more unobtrusive to me. Furthermore, you could make the entire thing wireless via the proper bluetooth profiles (VDP, A2DP, AVRCP, GAVDP, GAP, etc.) OR some sort of Wireless USB magic. You might also want to consider bone conduction acoustics instead of the traditional ear buds as it doesn't occlude the wearer's ears. I'm not too sure about the fidelity, though, especially the high end.
