Microvision Awarded $730,000 Contract from U.S. Army to Develop Full-Color, See-Through, Head Worn Display Prototype

BOTHELL, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 28, 2005--Microvision (Nasdaq:MVIS - News), the leader in light scanning technologies for displays and imaging, announced today that it has been awarded a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract of approximately $730,000, from the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM). Microvision will design, fabricate, integrate, and deliver a full-color portable display demonstration system using its proprietary scanned-beam display technology. This contract follows a study performed by Microvision showing the migration path from its current monochrome display system to a full color display and the benefits that a daylight readable, see-though color display can deliver compared to cathode-ray tubes (CRTs) that are currently deployed in the Army's ground and air fleet.

"Current flat panel display technology simply doesn't deliver the combination of resolution, brightness and contrast that our solution can achieve," stated Rick Rutkowski, Microvision CEO. "Our Nomad System is currently being deployed in a number of commercial and military applications, including in maintenance and repair depots and in combat areas like Iraq where the environment and operating conditions are very difficult. The success we have had to date with the military using our commercial head-up display has lead to this opportunity to develop a full-color, see-through daylight readable display prototype. This contract is also further evidence of our success in boosting growth in contract revenue and adds to what is already shaping up to be a strong year for development contracts."
