Tech Convergence Will Spur Demand for New ADAS Technology

Ratliffe Leaves MVIS BOD

Change in Directors or Principal Officers

Item 5.02. Departure of Directors or Principal Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Principal Officers.

On November 3, 2005, Robert A. Ratliffe notified Microvision, Inc. (the "Company") of his resignation effective November 30, 2005 from the Company's Board of Directors. The directors and management of the Company have expressed their appreciation to Mr. Ratliffe for his diligent and loyal service to the Company and its shareholders.

Thanks for your service Mr. Ratliffe. Now, how about Ray Kurzweil as a replacement? He's on the Army Science Advisory Group (a board of five people who advise the Army on science and technology), he's unquestionably one of the smartest men alive, he's an innovator and entrepreneur who's turned numerous inventions into lucrative businesses. He's our highest profile and most eloquent and convincing advocate in the technology community. His two most recent best-selling books both declare that Microvision displays are in widespread mainstream use by 2010, and that augmented and virtual reality environments will utilize Microvision displays instead of any competing technology.

I don't know if he'd want to do it, or if he's spread too thin. But if there's any guy whose advice I would take seriously and act upon, it's him.

Ray Kurzweil has been described as “the restless genius” by the Wall Street Journal, and “the ultimate thinking machine” by Forbes. Inc. magazine ranked him #8 among entrepreneurs in the United States, calling him the “rightful heir to Thomas Edison,” and PBS included Ray as one of 16 “revolutionaries who made America,” along with other inventors of the past two centuries.

Wired magazine writes, “Ray Kurzweil has a knack for spotting the next new thing. He has been charging into the future for nearly 40 years. He’s best known for guerrilla assaults on conventional wisdom.”

Kurzweil has successfully founded and developed nine companies in optical character recognition, music synthesis, speech recognition, reading technology, virtual reality, financial investment, medical simulation, and cybernetic art.

He has received twelve honorary Doctorates and honors from three U.S. presidents.

    Damn! What a great suggestion!

Kurzweil would be a huge asset to the MVIS board. If anyone could schmooze him to join it would be Rick Rutkowski, too. They spent some time together at the Gilder conflab in Tahoe last month... I wonder it it's already in the works...
