Micro Laser Projection Displays for Mobile Phones: Microvision will be showcasing at the Society of Information Display's conference in San Francisco, several exciting scanned beam display products and concepts including a demonstrator of its miniature projection display, called PicoP. The company will be exhibiting in booth number 214. PicoP, based on the company's Integrated Photonics Module (IPM) display platform, is being designed to be embedded inside portable mobile devices such as cell phones and PDAs to add a "big screen" projection experience to mobile applications. The company expects that its OEM customers may also design the IPM capability into emerging industrial, consumer, automotive and military display products.
Micro Laser Projection Displays "Microvision's IPM display platform is unique in many respects. It is expected to yield the ultimate solution - a large image in a small package," said Alexander Tokman, Microvision CEO. "Unlike most matrix-display technologies, such as a LCD or DLP, we modulate laser light temporally and spatially using a single tiny vibrating silicon mirror to produce an image. The inherent advantages of this display platform include spectacular image quality, small form factor and low power. For example, because PicoP is using a collimated beam of laser light to produce a full-color, high resolution and contrast image it exhibits an "infinite" depth of focus. As a result, this product will not require a projection lens which further reduces its form factor and cost.
Projection Displays for Mobile Devices The overall package can be very compact and driven by low power. A small form factor balanced with low power requirements is essential to portable handset manufacturers to enable personal projection applications. "Microvision's IPM display platform is expected to support a variety of large market opportunities in addition to personal projection displays, including wearable displays for military, industrial, and consumer applications as well as automotive head-up displays," concluded Tokman.
About Microvision Microvision is the world leader in the development of light scanning technologies for high-resolution display and imaging systems. These systems use the company’s proprietary silicon micro-mirror technology to enable OEM, ODM, Tier I, and other select partners product solutions for a broad range of industrial, consumer, military, and medical applications.
A World of Display and Imaging Opportunities The company supplies its core expertise to partners in the form of integrated photonic modules (IPM), which are fully integrated display and imaging engines. These engines are being designed to be embedded into our partners product offerings, providing a powerful advantage of price, performance, and packaging that enables new generations of products to meet today’s rapidly emerging market needs. The company has also developed two end-user products incorporating first generation IPM elements, the Nomad Display System and the Flic Laser Bar Code System.
